Dear Sisters,
We begin this new Year and a Day Study with the creation of this blog page for our coven's website. This page will serve as our class syllabus and discussion forum. After clicking the word "comments" above, you can pose questions, share things you found interesting, make observations and connections, and discuss with each other your experiences as they relate to the readings we are doing together. And so we begin our February study with the following assignments: 1. Read the "Introduction" and "Instructional Interlude" in The Amazon Tradition of Ritual Arts and Magical Crafts. 2. Write a forum comment or two, and respond to each other's comments. 3. Create the cover for your Book of Shadows and insert the blank pages that you can print from this website. Also print the blank cards of the Amazon Tradition Tarot deck, but do not start working on the Spring suit until after Ostara. These first steps on our journey will conclude on Feb. 23, at our first crafting day of the year. Here are a few questions to get us started: Question 1: Why have so many women written "creation myths?" Question 2: What purpose do they serve? Question 3: Why does the creation myth in my book make so many women feel uncomfortable when they first read it? Question 4: After reading my creation myth and then reading the creation myth Caity posted on the forum, consider how each makes you feel, and the possible reasons why each was written the way it was. Were they at cross purposes or did they have the same goal? What did they achieve for you? Question 5: Is it true that, "whomever controls the narrative controls the world?" Question 6: In what ways have patriarchal narratives shaped your life? Question 7: In what ways are women complicit in perpetuating the hegemonic patriarchal narrative? Question 8: In the context of studying the Amazon Tradition of ritual and magic, or paganism in general, why is any of this important to think about or understand? Question 9: Does writing or embracing a new narrative really change anything in our lives? Question 10: Is writing, or creating narratives, really a form of word/spell magic? May the Goddess bless us as we travel the wheel of the year together, learning and growing, and becoming ever more powerful in our rituals and magics. Blessed Be, Laurie
